Introduction
On 30th April 2025, our team visited Kilemu Primary School and Mabuurua Primary School in Tigania East Constituency of Meru County to assess and support the ongoing school feeding program. The visit was conducted amid challenging road conditions due to recent rains, as the area is semi-arid and situated 60 km from Meru Town.
The team that went for this activity comprised of MCK Miathene Synod Bishop Harrison Mwiti, the local circuit minister, and the assistant steward, ensuring strong community and church support for the initiative.
School Visits
The visit began at Kilemu Primary School, which has a pupil population of 275, and later proceeded to Mabuurua Primary School, where 375 pupils are enrolled. At both schools, we were warmly received by school management, parents, and pupils, demonstrating strong community involvement in the program.
Activities Conducted
During the visit, the following activities were successfully carried out:
1. Food Donation
A significant food donation from Acton and Arborlawn Methodist Churches in the USA was officially handed over to both schools. This contribution aims to support the schools’ feeding program, ensuring that students receive nutritious meals to enhance their learning environment.
The donation to each school comprised of the following food stuff
- Beans – 3 bags
- Maize – 10 bags
- Millet – 1.5 bags
- Sugar – 50 kgs
- Salt – 20 Kgs
- Onions – 20 kgs
- Cooking oil – 20 litters
- A bag of Cabbages
This food donation will keep the school running for a month – a huge financial relief to the parents and school management.
Bishop Harrison expressed deep appreciation for this kind and timely food donations, emphasizing that they would not only help feed the pupils but also encourage school attendance by reducing hunger-related absenteeism.
