Kilemu and Mabuurua Girls’ Empowerment Program

The team successfully conducted a girls’ empowerment initiative aimed specifically at adolescent female pupils, focusing on menstrual health, personal safety, and educational awareness. The program was structured to address key challenges that hinder school attendance among girls, ensuring they have access to essential resources and knowledge to support their education and well-being.

Sanitary Pad Distribution

As part of the initiative, the team distributed reusable sanitary pads to ensure that girls remain in school without interruptions caused by menstrual cycles. The distribution breakdown was as follows:

  • Kilemu Primary School: 76 packs of reusable sanitary pads were provided to the female pupils.
  • Mabuurua Primary School: 81 packs of reusable sanitary pads were distributed.

These donations will play a crucial role in improving school attendance rates among girls, reducing absenteeism linked to menstrual hygiene challenges, and fostering confidence in their educational journey. By equipping them with sustainable menstrual health solutions, the program empowers them to focus on their studies without unnecessary disruptions.

The initiative was met with heartfelt appreciation, as the girls expressed gratitude for the support. Their positive response reinforced the importance of such interventions in creating an inclusive and conducive learning environment.

Educational and Awareness Training

Alongside the sanitary pad distribution, the program incorporated comprehensive interactive training sessions aimed at enhancing personal development, awareness, and safety. These sessions were designed to equip the pupils with essential life skills and knowledge that contribute to their overall well-being.

The topics covered in the training included:

  • General hygiene and personal well-being: Educating students on proper hygiene practices to maintain overall health and confidence.
  • Reproductive health education: Offering age-appropriate guidance on puberty, menstrual cycles, and bodily changes, helping girls understand and manage their health effectively.
  • Prevention of human trafficking and safety measures: Raising awareness about the dangers of human trafficking and equipping students with safety tips to protect themselves from exploitation.
  • Self-defence techniques for personal security: Teaching practical self-defence methods to ensure that girls can safeguard themselves in challenging situations.
  • Safe choices and preventive measures against STDs: Providing crucial information about sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), preventive strategies, and responsible decision-making regarding personal health.
  • Proper use of reusable sanitary pads: Demonstrating how to correctly use and maintain reusable sanitary pads, promoting sustainable menstrual health solutions that are both eco-friendly and cost-effective.

Through these sessions, the girls engaged in dynamic discussions, asked insightful questions, and gained practical knowledge that will support their health, safety, and education. The empowerment program successfully strengthened their confidence and resilience, equipping them with tools to navigate the challenges they may face while pursuing their education.
