On the 18th, we conducted a successful deworming exercise at Kathirune Primary School in partnership with Gabby’s Team. We were warmly welcomed by the school administration, led by Mr. Zachayo, the Head Teacher. A total of 330 individuals, including students and teachers, were dewormed during the class-by-class process.
During discussions with the Head Teacher, he suggested introducing a Girls Empowerment Program for the 68 girls at the school and requested sanitary pads to support them. Additionally, he highlighted the need for computers to equip the school’s computer lab. Gabby recommended that the Head Teacher submit an official email regarding the computer request to facilitate further support.
As part of our visit, the team also presented the children with footballs and toothpaste, which brought smiles and excitement to the students.
Later the same day, we visited Mulanthankari Primary School, where the teachers extended a warm welcome. At the time of our visit, the students were in class taking exams, but we proceeded with a class-by-class deworming exercise. During this session, we managed to deworm 750 students and 30 teachers. The school also has a class of 19 differently-abled children, though only six of them were present that day and received the deworming medication.
This visit to the two schools not only focused on improving health but also highlighted critical areas for further support, including the empowerment of female students, provision of sanitary pads, and equipping the computer lab. We remain committed to working closely with both schools to implement these initiatives and foster a positive and lasting impact on their communities.
