Community Outreach Overview
The joint team visited two primary schools and one village within Meru County to deliver sanitary kits and conduct health education sessions targeting adolescent girls after the general school deworming of all pupils and the teachers.
Day 1: 8th July 2025 – School-Based Outreach
Schools Visited:
- Mweronkanga Primary School
- Lacathuriu Primary School
Sanitary Kit Distribution
- Mweronkanga Primary School:
- Kits distributed to 93 adolescent girls
- 70 girls did not receive kits due to stock limitations
- Total demand exceeded available supplies, signaling a strong need for future support
- Lacathuriu Primary School:
- Kits distributed to 50 adolescent girls
Each kit included:
- Reusable sanitary pads
- Undergarments (pants)
- A face towel
- A bar of soap
Training Sessions Conducted
All beneficiaries participated in educational sessions before receiving the kits. Topics included:
- General hygiene and menstrual health awareness
- Reproductive health and puberty education
- Basic self-defence skills
- Prevention of human trafficking and exploitation
- Safe choices and preventive measures against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
The sessions fostered open dialogue and empowered girls to make informed decisions about their health and personal safety.
Day 2: 10th July 2025 – Kiracene Village House Dedication Event
Location: Kiracene Village Context: Community visit during house dedication ceremony
Additional Kit Distribution
- Kits provided to 3 adolescent girls during the outreach
- These girls also participated in the same training modules as the school-based sessions
Impact & Observations
- Total kits distributed: 146
- Total trained beneficiaries: 146 adolescent girls
- The initiative highlighted urgent needs in underserved schools and communities
- Steflomu Organization, in partnership with Rev Jim/Sue and Jim Team drawn from Oregon/Washington/Montana, reaffirmed its commitment to holistic adolescent health empowerment
School staff and village elders expressed deep appreciation for the training and supplies, advocating for sustained engagement in future programs.
