Mutunyi Primary School Sanitary Kits Distribution and Deworming Program

Title: Sanitary Kit Distribution & Health Education Initiative

Date of Activity: 17th July 2025

Location: Mutunyi Primary School, Meru County

Conducted by: Jack’s Team in collaboration with Steflomu Organization

Program Objective

The initiative aimed to empower adolescent girls by enhancing their awareness of menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and personal safety, while equipping them with essential hygiene supplies to support their well-being and school attendance during a deworming program. This was after the  general school deworming of all pupils and the teachers.

School Engagement

On 17th July 2025, the combined teams from Jordie’s initiative and Steflomu Organization conducted a full-day health and wellness session at Mutunyi Primary School. A total of 100 adolescent girls actively participated in the program, which was organized in coordination with the school staff and tailored to the learners’ needs.

Sanitary Kits Distribution

Each participant received a sanitary kit designed to support personal hygiene and menstrual health. These kits included reusable sanitary pads for long-term menstrual care, a pair of comfortable undergarments to preserve dignity, a soft face towel for daily grooming, and a bar of soap to promote consistent cleanliness. The distribution process was coupled with demonstrations on how to use and maintain the reusable pads effectively.

Training Modules Delivered

Before receiving the kits, the girls engaged in interactive and informative sessions that covered key topics central to their growth and safety. The training began with general hygiene practices and guidance on managing menstruation confidently and hygienically. It progressed into reproductive health education, which provided clarity on bodily changes during puberty and addressed common misconceptions in a culturally sensitive way.

The session also offered foundational self-defense techniques, helping girls build confidence in asserting boundaries and protecting themselves in uncertain situations. A critical component addressed human trafficking, equipping them with awareness on how to identify red flags and seek help. Lastly, the training focused on making safe choices and preventing sexually transmitted diseases by highlighting the importance of consent, autonomy, and available health resources.

Throughout the training, participants were encouraged to ask questions and share their experiences, making the learning process relatable and empowering.

Feedback & Reflections

The girls expressed sincere appreciation for both the sanitary kits and the knowledge gained. Their feedback highlighted a new sense of confidence in managing their health and understanding their bodies. Teachers observed a shift in awareness and expressed enthusiasm for continued engagements with similar programs.
