Loire and Kithwene Primary Schools Sanitary Kits Distribution and Deworming Program

Target Schools Visited

  1. Loire Primary School — Located in Meru County, this school hosted the first session of the outreach.
  2. Kithwene Primary School — The team also visited this neighboring institution to extend similar support and training.

Sanitary Kit Distribution Summary

The outreach initiative focused on equipping adolescent girls with essential hygiene items aimed at promoting menstrual health and personal well-being. This activity followed the general school and teachers deworming activity.

Total beneficiaries: 118 adolescent girls

  • Loire Primary School: 85 girls
  • Kithwene Primary School: 33 girls

Each sanitary kit distributed contained:

  • Reusable sanitary pads – Durable and environmentally friendly options to support sustainable menstrual hygiene.
  • Undergarments (pants) – To provide basic dignity and comfort.
  • Face towel – Encouraging cleanliness and personal grooming.
  • Bar of soap – For daily hygiene maintenance.

The kits were presented in an inclusive, affirming environment, with personalized guidance on how to use and care for the reusable pads.

Training & Awareness Sessions

Prior to the kit handover, both teams facilitated comprehensive training sessions designed to empower the girls with critical life skills and health knowledge. Topics included:

  • General hygiene and menstrual health management
    • Understanding body changes during puberty
    • Maintaining personal cleanliness and proper pad care
  • Reproductive health education
    • Introduction to reproductive anatomy and functions
    • Discussion on menstruation myths and stigma
  • Self-defense techniques
    • Basic physical and psychological strategies to enhance personal safety
    • Awareness-building on boundaries and asserting oneself
  • Human trafficking awareness and prevention
    • Red flags and vulnerability indicators
    • How to report suspicious activity
  • Safe choices and protection against STDs
    • Importance of consent and personal autonomy
    • Preventive behaviors and information on available health resources

Interactive discussions, role-play activities, and Q&A sessions encouraged active participation and helped create a safe space for open dialogue.

Impact & Reflections

This initiative was more than just a distribution exercise—it was an empowerment journey. The girls expressed appreciation not only for the kits but for the newfound knowledge and confidence gained through the sessions. School administrators acknowledged the practical value of the program and welcomed future collaborations.

The partnership between Jodie’s Team and Steflomu Organization showcased how joint efforts can enhance community health, protect vulnerable populations, and foster lasting change.
